What makes The Homestead special?
Where are we?
The Homestead care home is located in Carterton, Oxfordshire, close to Kilkenny Lane Country Park, just 4 miles south of Witney and 15 miles from the historic city of Oxford. Carterton is a bustling town with many amenities such as shops, cafes, charity shops, a supermarket, pubs, a community centre and leisure centre.
Activities, trips and events
For those who enjoy the outdoors, our landscaped gardens, sensory garden, patio areas and summer house are lovely areas to relax and, for keen gardeners, we have a potting shed.
There is a hair salon and coffee shop, and our bar ‘Carter’s Rest’ has its very own jukebox and piano. We have a themed train carriage and a dressmaking area. Our varied schedule of optional events and activities, helps residents to explore their interests and discover new ones. There’s table tennis, armchair exercises, gardening, baking, flower arranging, arts and crafts and church services.
Together with regular visits from local playgroups, there’s never a dull moment.
Award-winning music therapy
The Homestead care home is committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained therapist is funded by charitable donations. The therapist interacts directly with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting. Take a look at our video to find out more about this life-changing therapy.
Chaplaincy and pastoral support
We are proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. The chaplain provides a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs - and organise worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.
Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.
Our experience
MHA is an award-winning charity, helping to improve the lives of over 19,000 older people across Britain every day. Our highly trained and dedicated staff are available 24/7 to provide assistance whenever needed, ensuring the provided care and support is tailored to each individuals needs.
The Homestead offers care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.
Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.
Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.
The Homestead has the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.
We encourage our residents to furnish their own rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their own comfy chair, or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled.
We have a mix of room types, including rooms with a full en suite wet room and others with an en suite toilet and sink. Some rooms also enjoy lovely garden views.
If your loved one enjoys catching up with the latest news, sport, chat shows or soaps, we can provide a TV in their room on request, and there’s WiFi throughout the home.
Our residential care is all about providing a special kind of home from home. It’s our way of making sure your loved one continues to live life to its fullest and remains as independent as possible. It means they can get out and about when they want to, catch up with friends or pop to the shops, but with the added security and peace of mind that comes from knowing 24-hour support is available if they need it.
Our team are on hand to offer just the right amount of care, giving those who need it support with activities such as bathing, dressing and mealtimes.
Without having to worry about cooking meals, washing clothes or getting the hoover out, you’ll see your loved one truly enjoying life and exploring their full potential.
We’re proud to be recognised for our pioneering approach to dementia care, which is carefully built around each individual.
Our dementia facilities here are second to none, and specially designed to provide a reassuringly familiar, engaging and warm environment for those living with us. We have themed areas around the home and our dementia areas open into a secure and peaceful garden.
Residents enjoy music therapy and reminiscence activities, designed to stimulate social interaction and alleviate the feeling of isolation associated with dementia.
Mealtimes are an important part of the day here, giving our residents the opportunity to get together and enjoy freshly prepared food in a relaxed restaurant-style environment. We always offer two meal options and our chefs will happily prepare something special if nothing on the menu appeals.
Our commitment to your wellbeing
Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.
We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.
We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.
We also provide regular gentle exercise sessions and have close links with GP surgeries, district nurses and dentists. Our in-house hair salon keeps everyone looking their best and uplifting visits from local schools keep us all young at heart.
