MHA is one of the pioneers of person-centred specialist dementia care in the UK. Our first specialist dementia care home opened in 1989 and since then we have continued to develop our approach in our care homes, resource centres and retirement apartments across the UK.

Our specialist dementia care recognises each person as a unique personality, whose spirit is undiimmed and we aim to address peoples' spiritual and physical needs and preferences, with both reassurance and highly individual support.

We take great trouble to find  out about each person's particular characteristics, their history, likes and dislikes, even when they are unable to communicate effectively themselves.

Our purpose-built dementia care homes are designed and decorated to be safe for residents, and also as familiar, reassuring and as easy to navigate as possible. Some offer residential dementia care and others are registered to provide dementia nursing care, offering a higher staff to resident ratio and the support of Registered Mental Health Nurses.

Thanks to the support of charitable donations we are able to provide ground-breaking music therapy sessions free of charge to residents with living dementia, providing residents with alternative ways of expressing themselves and engaging with the world around them. To help us continue this life-enhancing work, please consider supporting our Music Therapy Appeal. Find out more on the Music Therapy Appeal page.

We also publish a booklet, Keeping in Touch, to help friends and family whose loved ones have dementia.
