What is MHA Active?

What is on MHA Active?

Is MHA Active free?

Yes, when MHA Active launches it will be free for all. As a new part of MHA’s wider service offering, we’re going to monitor MHA Active’s overall performance, but we’ve committed to providing it free for the first 18 months from launch.

What information do I need to register an MHA Active account?

It really is as easy as one, two, three. The only information we require from you when you register with MHA Active is:

  1. Where you’re accessing the service from, be that MHA Communities, Retirement Living or your specific care setting’s name.
  2. A username, so you can login securely and we can provide you help or support, if needed.
  3. A password, from 4-14 digits long. To keep your account secure.

Do I need to supply my telephone number or email to register?

We understand not everyone has an email address and many might be using tablets which don’t have an associated telephone number, so these fields are optional.

However, if you forget your password, you will need to provide an email for us to send you your reset instructions. So, if you do have an email account, we’d recommend you add it when registering or add it afterwards.

Does MHA Active work on my phone or tablet?

MHA Active has been designed to work with the widest specification of available devices. However, we are continually testing and making improvements.

Android devices guidance

Works on all Android phones and tablets which access the Play Store and are running Android 10 onwards.

Performs best on Android devices that have at least 2GB of RAM and a multicore processor.

You will need an active internet connection via cellular data (mobile contract) or via a connected WIFI or cable connection.

Please check with your mobile provider to ensure you have available data, as you may be charged.

Please note that older devices may work, however these have not been tested.

Apple devices guidance

The app works on all iPhone and iPad devices featuring the A9 processor or newer, which access the App Store and are running iOS 15.0 onwards.

It performs best on Apple devices from 2016 onwards.

You will need an active internet connection via cellular data (mobile contract) or via a connected WIFI or cable connection.

Please check with your mobile provider to ensure you have available data, as you may be charged.

Can I search for a specific video?

Yes, you can search using text by either typing in the top search box or by the search option at the bottom. Simply type what you’d like to search for and all results will be shown.

I’m hearing impaired, are there subtitles?

Yes, all videos have subtitles. These can be turned on via the media player, selecting the CC option to turn on or off. Some of our videos also embedded subtitles into the video.

Can I watch the videos on fullscreen?

Yes, simply select the expand button towards the top left of the video player, shown as two opposing diagonal arrows and then rotate your device to landscape. When going back to the main menu, press this button again and turn your device back to portrait.

How do I provide feedback on MHA Active?

We’ve built a user survey right into MHA Active. This is accessed by the top left menu, selecting the Survey option.

Here you can provide a whole range of different feedback from App performance, to features you’d like to see improved or added.

How do I cancel my MHA Account account?

If you’d like to cancel your free account, please email digitalcommunities@mha.org.uk referencing the username used to register. Please note that all account closures will be actioned within 72 hours of your request.

Will I get notifications?

No, currently the app does not support any notifications.

Will I get marketing emails?

No, we will not use emails for marketing purposes.

Can I download videos I like?

Yes, you can download up to five videos within the app, subject to available space on your device and suitable data/internet connections.

Can I like videos?

No, currently the app does not support the liking of individual videos.

How do I uninstall the MHA Active App from my device?

With both iOS and Android, the most straightforward way to remove the app is to long-press the MHA Active icon and then select the 'remove app' or 'uninstall' option.

Does MHA Active track my location?

No, MHA Active does not collect or transmit any location information whilst using the app, nor does it require the user to grant GPS location rights.

Does MHA Active share my information with external companies?

No, all user information is managed wholly by MHA.

Does MHA Active collect data on me?

MHA Active keeps a record of your usage, which is broken down into comments you have made on videos, videos you have watched and also any videos you might download within the app. This will enable MHA to see what videos are popular and will inform future decisions on what videos are produced and where production resources are allocated.

All intellectual property rights in the App and its content throughout the world belong to us (or our licensors) and these rights are licensed (not sold) to you. You have no intellectual property rights in, or to, the App or its contents other than the right to use them in accordance with these terms.

Any redistribution or reproduction of part or all of the contents in any form is prohibited.

In particular, you may not:

  • rent, loan, provide, make available or commercially exploit the content in any form, in whole or in part, without prior written consent from us;
  • transmit content or store it in any other App, website or other form of electronic retrieval system;
  • make any copy of the App or any of its content (save as reasonably required for back-up purposes);
  • translate, merge, adapt, vary, alter or modify, the whole or any part of the App or its content, nor allow it to be combined with, or become incorporated in, any other program;
  • disassemble, de-compile, reverse engineer or create derivative works based on the whole or any part of the App (except to the extent permitted by sections 50B and 296A of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988).

Methodist Homes licenses you to use the App (including its content), on the condition that you do not:

  • infringe our intellectual property rights or those of any third party;
  • transmit any material that is defamatory, offensive or otherwise objectionable;
  • use it in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, impair or compromise our systems or security or interfere with other users;
  • collect or harvest any information or data from our systems or attempt to decipher any transmissions to or from our servers.
Our Liability 

We do not provide warranties. This App and its contents are free for you to use. As a result, all content, materials and information on the app are provided on an "as is" basis and "as available" basis, for information purposes only and without any promises, conditions, warranties or other terms of any kind, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.

We are not required to update the App or to correct any inaccuracies which may become apparent. We may update the App, at our discretion, without notice to you; but we are not required to update it or correct inaccuracies or errors, or to provide you with any support.

We are responsible to you for foreseeable loss and damage caused by us. If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer (up to a cap of £100 per claim) that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or our failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if either it is obvious that it will happen or if, at the time you accepted these terms, both we and you knew it might happen.

We will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by any event beyond our control. This includes (but is not limited to) a distributed denial-of-service attack, a virus or any other technologically harmful material that may infect your mobile device, other mobile applications, data or other proprietary material due to your use of the App.

We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and liability for fraud.

We are not liable for business losses. The App is for domestic and private use. If you use the App for any commercial, business or resale purpose we will have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, or loss of business opportunity.

Limitations to the App and the Services. The App and its contents are provided for general information and entertainment purposes only. They do not offer advice on which you should rely. You must obtain professional or specialist advice before taking, or refraining from, any action on the basis of information obtained from the App. Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information provided by the App, we make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that such information is accurate, complete or up to date.

Please back-up content and data used with the App. We recommend that you back up any content and data used in connection with the App.

Check that the App is suitable for you. The App has not been developed to meet your individual requirements. Please check that the facilities and functions of the App (as described on the appstore site) meet your requirements.

The App may contain links to other independent websites which are not provided by us. Such independent sites are not under our control, and we are not responsible for and have not checked and approved their content or their privacy policies (if any). You will need to make your own independent judgement about whether to use any such independent sites, including whether to buy any products or services offered by them.

General Terms

If a court finds part of this contract illegal, the rest will continue in force.

Even if we delay in enforcing this contract, we can still enforce it later.

These terms are governed by English law and you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in the English courts. If you live in Scotland you can bring legal proceedings in either the Scottish or the English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
