At Connell Court, we offer warm and welcoming residential care for up to 37 residents in purpose-built, ensuite accommodation in beautiful Birkdale. Our passionate team provides person-centred care in a home-from-home setting. We also offer short-term respite care.
As soon as you arrive, you'll see why people call us a second family: our residents and their relatives play a significant role in decision-making within the home.
Our highly-trained team of dedicated and experienced staff works hard to ensure that the people in our care, and their friends and family, feel truly at home. We always encourage our residents to live the life they want to lead: our shared living/dining areas provide opportunities to interact with the tight-knit community, whilst we also encourage independence and pursuit of individual interests, through access to a range activities as well as support with specific medical requirements.
Connell Court is situated closely to a number of local amenities. Our passionate Activities Coordinators organise regular trips to Blackpool and Llandudno, accompanied by a diverse diary of daily activities that take place in the home from bingo to crafts to visiting entertainment to Fizzy Friday!
Where are we?
We are well placed in beautiful Birkdale, close to the village where there is an assortment of cafes and bars. We are a five-minute walk away from the local railway station with links to Liverpool and Manchester. There are several doctors surgeries nearby and we're just five minutes away from Southport town centre with the infamous Lord Street.
Varied events calendar
We have a full schedule of activities and events that are facilitated by our two activity coordinators throughout the week that include, quizzes, chair exercises, baking, gardening club, reminiscence, bingo, beauty therapy, trips out to local shops, coffee shops for afternoon tea, singalongs, frequent visiting entertainment, barge trips, trips to Blackpool and Llandudno, garden parties, coffee mornings and many more.
We also hold regular fundraising raffles where the money raised is put towards the resident amenity fund and this is used to pay for special treats for our residents. We put on monthly classical concerts that are facilitated by one of our residents and we have an initiative of "Ask Ivor" that is a suggestion box where residents can request particular music for their pleasure.
We also have Sherry Sunday, Treat Tuesday and Fizzy Friday these are little extras that our residents particularly enjoy, especially Treat Tuesday where residents get to choose the Tuesday treat that varies from cream cakes from local bakers to a hand massage from care staff.
Chaplaincy and pastoral support
We have a resident chaplain two days a week who has been a local Methodist preacher for 20 years and has been with us since 2013. Heather provides companionship and spiritual support to our residents, relatives and staff. She provides weekly quiet group, communion, pastoral visits and hospital visits. Heather is a valuable addition to our team and regularly supports them especially for our social activities.
Seize the day - unique and memorable opportunities
Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.
Visit us for an afternoon
If you’d like to experience living at Connell Court, we’d love to invite you for lunch and to spend an afternoon with us. It’s the best way to really get a feel for our friendly home and decide if we’re right for you.
Connell Court provides care, comfort, compassion, and friendship to ensure that all residents are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Our highly trained and dedicated staff are available 24/7 to provide assistance whenever needed, ensuring the provided care and support is tailored to each individuals needs.
We offer care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.
Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.
All our bedrooms have either a full en suite wet room or en suite toilet and sink and some rooms enjoy lovely garden views.
If your loved one enjoys catching up with the latest news, sport, chat shows or soaps, we can provide a TV in their room on request, and there’s WiFi throughout the home.
We have a call system which can be operated by a hand control or a pendant depending on personal preference. All floors are secured by keypad coding to ensure that residents are safe and secure at all times.
Finding a place that you can call "home" is a question of getting the right balance.
Our residential care provides 24 hour support to help you maintain their independence –giving you peace of mind and a place to make new friends and explore new interests.
In many ways it is like living in a hotel, where you don’t need to worry about laundry, changing the bed or cleaning your room. We will use the district nurse and GP's to provide any medical care. Our caring staff help with everyday activities, as required, like bathing and dressing or support at meal times.
At the same time, there is no reason why you can’t maintain links with the local community, or develop new friendships and relationships. Care staff will help you do that, while also working hard to create a home that is itself full of opportunity and possibility.
In the main living areas of the home you will find lounges where you can join in one of the many activities with others or to sit quietly with a book or newspaper.
Mealtimes are an important part of the day here, giving our residents the opportunity to get together and enjoy freshly prepared food in a relaxed restaurant-style environment. We always offer two meal options and our team, led by chef Kath, will happily prepare something special if nothing on the menu appeals
Our residents particularly enjoy special themed meals such as Mother’s day, Easter, Valentine’s day and Christmas.
Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.
We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.
We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.
We also provide regular gentle exercise sessions and have close links with GP surgeries, district nurses and dentists. And our in-house hair salon keeps everyone looking their best.
Our team are happy to help you when you are ready to discuss the care and support that you, or your loved one may need. You can call us directly, arrange a tour of our home or submit an enquiry and we’ll contact you.
