Three colleagues from MHA Willowcroft pounded the northeast streets by taking part in the Great North Run and raised thousands in the process.

Kate Prince, Carly Theobald and Racheal Simpson are part of the management team at MHA Willowcroft and decided to do the challenge to raise funds for the amenities fund.

The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in Northeast England each September.

It was the first time the three had taken part in a national event such as the Great North Run and despite the torrential rain, they ploughed on and completed the run.

In total they raised £2196, which will be used for the activities and trips for the residents.

Carly Theobald, administration manager said: “The feeling of taking part in the Great North Run is something you can only explain once you have done it.

“The atmosphere was amazing, the support shown by locals was something that kept us going and when we received the medals it was a very fulfilling moment

“The support made it worthwhile and there were times it was tough, and you felt like it was getting difficult, but the support made you forget what you were doing and helped you to carry on.

“The weather was something else, we had rain that can only be described as something very similar to a monsoon.

“Three hours prior to everything starting we had bright sun and when we started running the heavens opened.

“When we arrived back to the home, the residents were telling us how they watched the race and were keeping a lookout for us, which was very nice.

“There was a lot of commotion, and we received a great reception from our colleagues and residents.

“The residents were thanking us for doing it for them and those comments made everything worthwhile.”
