Where there’s a will…
Did you know that October is Free Wills Month? Chances are you didn’t – chances are, you haven’t made a will. Some figures suggest that only three people in ten in the UK do have one.
But if you do have assets, it’s crucial to outline where you want them to go – and now is a good time.
During Free Wills Month, participating solicitors will draw up a simple will free of charge for older people over 55. It may not be something that we like thinking about, but if you want to be sure that your estate is distributed the way you want it to be, drawing up a will ensures your wishes will be carried out, and can spare your loved ones complicated and potentially costly disputes.
If there is a cause close to your heart as well, then making a will can ensure you keep supporting it for many years. MHA’s first legacy was received from Miss B R Plowman, who left us £200 in 1944. Nearly 70 years on, 70% of our gifts come from legacies, and these help us to provide care and support for 16,000 older people. In fact, we can provide some services, such as music therapy for people with dementia, free of charge thanks to these generous gifts.
If you’d like to have your will drawn up free of charge this month, we at MHA can help. Contact Bobby Youngwood on 01332 221 946 or at Bobby.Youngwood@mha.org.uk to find out participating solicitors in your area.
