Volunteers’ Week is a UK wide campaign, running from 1-7 June each year for the last 36 years. It has three main objectives which are:

  • To recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers and encourage people across the UK to do the same
  • To raise the profile of volunteer-involving organisations
  • To increase participation in volunteering

We want to acknowledge and celebrate our volunteers who are committed to enabling people to live later life well, whatever the circumstances they find themselves in.

How are you celebrating your volunteers during the Covid-19 outbreak?

Volunteers’ week is usually the time we see a host of tea parties, coffee mornings, meals and parties around the UK but with celebrations cancelled, it’s important to us that our volunteers feel appreciated.

Each volunteer across MHA will be receiving a thank you card with a message from our Chief Executive and we’re encouraging our homes and schemes to share their volunteers’ stories to acknowledge and thank them for all they do. Homes and schemes will be able to celebrate their volunteers together when it is safe to do so.

MHA's Volunteer Wellbeing Guide

Covid-19 has affected our volunteers in many ways. Some of you are unable to volunteer in order to keep safe and others are doing new things or joining us at this difficult time. As individuals we are facing many different scenarios and experiences and we understand that for some if not many volunteers this is a hugely challenging time and places many under stress, strain and anxiety.

We have produced this Wellbeing Guide for all of our volunteers whether currently volunteering or not as a means of being reminded of some useful information and gaining some practical tips for thinking about and improving your wellbeing.

There are a number of webinar links available for those who feel they could benefit from that extra level of emotional support. In this section you can also find links to some seminars produced for Mental Health Awareness Week which you may find useful. A variety of topics are covered including “5 Ways to Wellbeing”

Our chaplaincy service is also offering a 24 hour support service for volunteers. If you would like to speak to a chaplain, please call 07545 652393 and leave a message. A chaplain will call you back within 24 hours.
