New Chair of Board of Trustees appointed

MHA is delighted to announce it has appointed John Robinson as the Chair of its Board of Trustees.  John has succeeded Graham Smith, who stepped down from his role after completing his full term of office.

Since 2000, John has had a wide variety of non-executive roles including Chair of Wimpey, Chair of Railtrack and Chair of Abbeyfield, an older people’s charity.  He is also a Trustee of disability and community engagement charity, Livability and Chair of the Abbeyfield Research Foundation, which promotes and funds research into elderly care. 

John previously had a successful executive career as CEO of the international medical devices business, Smith and Nephew plc.

John is a Methodist by upbringing and currently worships in his local Anglican village church and is involved with various church projects.

John said: “I am delighted to be joining MHA as Chair of its Board of Trustees. It is a charity with a great ethos in caring for the whole person, whether that’s through its Live at Home services, its retirement living or its care homes.

“There us a great deal of focus on care for older people currently with the growing population, increased numbers of people living with dementia and continued reduction in funding.  I see my role with MHA in helping to influence that equation and balance it out.”

MHA is an award-winning charity which provides services for more than 17,700 older people across England, Scotland and Wales.  It does this through its community-based Live at Home schemes, retirement living communities and care homes.

Graham spent a total of 15 years on the Board of MHA, the last three as its Chair.

He added: “The appointment of John as my successor is a great one for MHA.  John brings a wealth of experience to the charity which will help it continue on its journey of growth to help even more older people in the future.”
