MHA, one of the most well-respected care providers in the sector and one of UK's top 20 charities for older people which has been providing services to older people for 75 years, has issued a statement on the Government’s announcement regarding the emergency £240m to be available for social care.

Pavan Dhaliwal, Head of External Affairs said: “We welcome the Health Secretary’s commitment of £240m to domiciliary care and re-ablement support and know that a number of our Live at Home scheme members and those in our residential living will benefit from this investment.

“We do not feel that this goes far enough however and that social care in its current format is unsustainable. This additional funding is to reduce pressure on the NHS and whilst this is to be welcomed, we would like to see the social care sector being s recognised as an essential and valued sector and to receive funding on its own merits.

“We look forward to the Government’s Green Paper where we hope that some of these issues will be addressed.”
