A Victorian themed summer fayre helped to raise more than £450 for MHA The Fairways.

The Chippenham home didn't let the rain dampen their spirits and with the help of more than 60 people they managed to raise £471.00

The fayre included staff members dressing up in traditional Victorian clothing as well as Chewy the Donkey making an appearance.

Typical fayre activities like a raffle and tombola were ever present and an art sale with paintings made by residents proved to be very popular.

The funds raised will go towards the homes amenities fund, which will help contribute towards trips and activities for residents.

Tracey Curd, admin manager said: “The fayre took around six weeks to plan, and it was a great day.

“We had a good turnout, with family members of residents and staff attending.

“The weather wasn't great, but that didn't affect our visitors who supported the cause wholeheartedly.

“Having Chewy there was great, the residents loved him, and we had a queue for people wanting to see him.

“I just searched for places that have donkeys in our area that visit care homes and that's how I found him.

“We had a local saxophone band providing some entertainment, which was just another addition to the day.

“The fayre was a huge community event, we had a lot of support, especially with donations for raffle prizes.

“It was a great day, we managed to raise a great sum and it will go a long way towards supporting our residents.”
