Residents and staff at MHA Oak Manor create “cosy cups” for emergency services and external support as thank you

Staff and residents at MHA Oak Manor have been busy knitting “cosy cups” to thank the emergency services and external support who visit the home.

The Shefford home decided to do something to show their appreciation to the Emergency Services such as the East of England Ambulance Service as well as GP’s and district nurses.

Home Manager Cecilia Adamek wanted to do something to show support and it was her colleague Pat Heseltine, who works as admin support who suggested knitting takeaway cups with various colours of wool and creating different designs.

The idea has proven to be a huge hit with residents who have been busy creating the cups during their knit and natter sessions.

External support staff can select their cup, which are displayed in suitcases near the entrance of the coffee shop before deciding what they would like to drink.

The home provides residential and dementia care for 64 residents.

Lydia Endersby, activities coordinator said: “The cosy cups have been a great addition to the home and everyone is really impressed by them.

“We are calling it the blues and twos project in reference to the blue lights and the two-tone siren associated with urgent journeys made by emergency services.

“The residents have really enjoyed creating them and it has allowed them to use their creative flair to produce a whole range of cups.

“All the visiting healthcare professionals are extremely grateful for what the residents have done and you often see them rummaging through the suitcases to see what design they want.

“The cups are completed with a thank you charm and it's something we hope to continue and utilise as an ongoing initiative here at MHA Oak Manor.”
