MHA Mayfields has set up a recycling scheme to encourage staff to reconsider throwing items and promote helping out one another.

The home has utilised a pantry in one of the rooms at the home and converted it into a space for staff to.

The Cheshire home provides residential dementia care for 46 residents and wants to offer staff  a safe, non-judgmental space where they can either offload any unwanted items or pick any they require.

Items such as clothing as well as a wide range of non-perishable items have been coming and going and have proven to be very popular amongst staff.

Anything that isn't picked up goes to a local charity shop to ensure it's used and not thrown away.

Susan Neill, home manager said: “ The idea came after a conversation I had with some of the senior staff members about recycling.

“Following the conversation, we created a space in one of our rooms and set up the Too Good To Throw scheme.

“In general, we do tend to throw a lot of stuff away, but by having this space we hope it will make us all think twice about throwing items away and think on how it can be used by someone else.

“There is no denying we are going through tough times with the cost of living and we want to help each other as much as we can.

“The scheme is still relatively new, but we have already had so many items saved and reused by someone else which is what we want.

“Looking out for one another is crucial and I do think this will bring staff closer together.

“It's a great conversation starter, you see staff looking through the items that are available and it's all good fun.”
