MHA Aughton Park has opened a brand new IT room for residents to help them stay connected.

The home used its amenity fund to purchase two computers and a smart TV and to mark the occasion Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire was invited to unveil the room.

Nicola Ugurbascicek, home manager said: “We have noticed residents are becoming more tech savvy so it was something we had on the cards for a while.

“Not all of our residents have access to a tablet or laptop, so by having a room for everyone to use that's helped to solve the problem. It was the residents request to have the computer room and I do feel it will get a lot of use.

“We had a few fundraising events before the pandemic to raise funds for the room and we had the room set up by our regional maintenance and IT team from the head office.

“Some of the residents have a Sky Sports package and they will plug their devices into the smart TV for all residents to enjoy the sports.

“I asked if our local MP Rosie Cooper would come and open the room and she was delighted to visit us. It was lovely for residents to speak with her and everyone enjoyed the day.”

Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire said: ““This is a great facility which will keep residents connected with their family, friends and the outside world.

“The Covid pandemic saw increasing social exclusion across many communities, and increased access to digital technology has become ever more valuable.

“I hope residents make the most out of what is a great new amenity at this home.”
