Living to 100 “a surprise” says resident at MHA The Herons after she celebrated birthday at home

A resident at MHA The Herons says she is “surprised” she celebrated her 100th birthday and has no secret to a long life.

Jean Bower celebrated her 100th birthday with close family at the home.

One of the lounges was used for Jean to celebrate her birthday with close family members coming to see her..

A birthday cake was prepared by one of the chefs and the highlight of the day was Jean receiving a telegram from the King.

Speaking after her party she said: “ I had a marvellous day and was thrilled with the decorations, 

“The day was a little overpowering but a big surprise. 

“I was shocked by all of the cards and flowers I received but it was marvellous.

“I don't have a secret when it comes to living a long life, it just happened and it's a surprise!.”

Claire Belshaw, admin manager said: “Jean is someone who doesn't like a big fuss, but we made sure we celebrated her birthday by putting some decorations up in her room and on her door which she enjoyed.

“She received plenty of cards and gifts which was really nice for her.

“The telegram from the King was something  he was very proud of and she had a huge smile on her face all day.

“The day started with a glass of bucks fizz, she had a great time with her close family, and we are all very happy we got to be a part of her big day.”
