There were plenty of celebrations at MHA Amathea following the 67th wedding anniversary of one of the residents.

Kathleen Brannon lives at the Workington home and celebrated her wedding anniversary with her husband David at the home.

The couple married in 1957 after David, who was originally from the Northeast, settled in Cumbria as an evacuee during World War II.

They met not long after the War and have one daughter, Claire.

The home decorated one of the lounges for the pair and arranged for afternoon tea and cake, with an anniversary cake being prepared by kitchen staff.

Sharon Clarke, activity coordinator said: “Kathleen was thrilled when she saw what was arranged for her.

“We were so happy to be able to celebrate her big day and it was amazing to see her reaction as it was a surprise for her.

“Her two sisters, who have always played a big part in both their lives, were also there and it was such a nice atmosphere.

“Our residents were also part of the celebrations, and everyone had a great time.

“Since Kathleen has moved into the home David has been a face we see several times a week and it's adorable how much love and affection they have for one another.

“On the day of the party, Kathleen kept telling us she loves the bones off him, and they are such an amazing couple.

“David recently donated some money to our amenities fund, and he really is a huge part of our home.”
