Gladys Bennett, a resident of the home turned 102 and to mark the occasion a party was organised for her.

The home, which provides residential care for 37 residents, made sure Gladys was decked in her birthday hat and prepared her favourite chocolate cake.

Gladys was born in Ireland and upon leaving school started working in an office, where she met her husband Edward, and got married in 1941.

Speaking about her party, Gladys said: “I really enjoyed my day and it was nice to see my family on my birthday.

“The secret to a long life is to have a happy family and plenty of laughter!.”

Claire Fletcher, deputy manager at the home said: “It was nice to celebrate Glady’s birthday and to have her family come and visit her in the morning was great.

“She had a huge smile on her face and really enjoyed her birthday and we made sure we had her favourite, chocolate cake which I am sure went a long way in making sure she was happy.

“After Covid, it was nice to see her whole family together, it was a great day and I am sure Gladys had a good time.”
