A resident at MHA The Homestead who is an avid painter visited Ashmolean Museum as part of her Seize the Day.

Avril Love lives at the Carterton home and is a keen painter.

She visited the Ashmolean Museum as part of her Seize the Day initiative, where residents are encouraged to re-experience activities or events from the past or to do something they would like to do for the first time.

MHA The Homestead provides residential and residential dementia care for 68 residents.

Avril made the 30 min journey from the home with activity coordinators Chloe Holmes and Kirsty Ridley.

After the visit Kirsty said: “Avril has a huge passion for art and is a keen painter even now at the age of 93.

“She has her paintings displayed in her room and used to paint watercolour as a hobby in her younger days.

“It's so nice to see her passion for art and painting is still there.

“When we mentioned to her where we were going she was really excited and once we arrived she was really in her element.

“Ashmolean has a range of paintings which all have a story, and Avril was going around telling us all about the painting and the history behind them,

“She enjoyed a slice of cake from the cafe and when we went back home she had a huge smile on her face and told everyone where she had been.

“It was a great day, and we all had a huge amount of fun.”
