Being part of MHA means belonging to a very special organisation. Being part of MHA also means being part of our Staff Membership Scheme which provides a range of benefits, rewards and support for our dedicated staff members.

From the moment an individual joins MHA, the Staff Membership Scheme offers enhanced terms and conditions, above average pay and goes on to further reward achievement, commitment and loyalty.  We will support you from the day you join MHA with a full induction and ongoing training throughout your career.

MHA Pension Scheme

MHA offers a favourable pension scheme to help you save for and make the most of your retirement. For every contribution that you make, MHA will help to top-up your pension pot in-line with the National Workplace Pension Scheme.

Family Friendly Policies

MHA has a number of ‘Family Friendly Policies’ to help staff members achieve a healthy work/life balance and keep their personal and domestic responsibilities.

At MHA, you’re at the very heart of work for older people. We want you to develop your performance, both to provide the best care and support and to be fulfilled in your work. We offer nationally recognised training courses and Leadership Academies for staff members.

Independent Free Counselling and Legal Advice

If you're struggling with one of life's pressures such as family and personal issues, finances, your health, or you require legal advice, MHA offers a free employee assistance programme which all staff can take advantage of 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service is confidential and independent of MHA.

Childcare Vouchers

You could save over £900 a year on your childcare costs with MHA Cares For You’s Childcare Vouchers, which can be spent on nurseries, au pairs, nannies, registered childminders and even holiday or before/after school clubs.

Hardship/Welfare Fund

MHA’s Hardship and Welfare Fund supports and assists staff members for crucial expenditures which they could not afford otherwise, in the event of one-off or crisis occurrences.

MHA Cares for You

This fantastic benefit gives you hundreds of great money saving offers at high street retailers for products including food, fuel, holidays and electrical goods. Access it online at or call the helpdesk on 0845 299 0908, which is open seven days a week.

Chaplaincy and Pastoral Support

Chaplaincy has always been one of the services that make MHA special and different from most other care providers for older people. Over the past few years the role of the Chaplain has been developed and expanded in many respects, and all our residential care settings benefit from the services of a Chaplain.

The Chaplaincy service is widely recognised and respected, both within MHA and beyond and is available to all staff members who may benefit from pastoral care and support to help meet spiritual needs.

Sick Pay

At MHA we all have responsibilities to each other and the older people we serve. Your attendance at work is important and we will naturally be concerned if you are frequently ill.

Your line manager is there to help or advise if there is a problem and acknowledge when support is required. Our free and independent counselling service can help with specialist advisers in health, stress, and financial commitments amongst many other matters.

All MHA employees are entitled to telephone support and face-to-face counselling at a local venue, free of charge.

Long Service Award

We want MHA to be an ‘employer of choice’ for people by providing a positive and supportive working environment. To this end, we reward long-serving staff members’ commitment and loyalty.

After five years, and every five years after that, each MHA staff member will receive a certificate and badge. Retail and holiday vouchers can be chosen to these values:

  • 10 years - £100
  • 15 years - £150
  • 20 years - £200

After 25 years’ service, an individual will be invited to a party organised in their honour and be able to select a gift to the value of £300.

Flexible Benefits

We aim to offer you flexibility in choosing the benefits you like, wherever possible. To support this, we offer members of staff the opportunity to have more holidays or be paid for the time instead – whichever you prefer.

Staff members can 'buy' an additional week’s holiday each year or ‘sell’ up to a week’s holiday (dependent on entitlement and the Working Time Regulations*). Other staff rewards available to you are:

  • Recommend a Friend payments
  • Free fruit monthly
  • Free corporate clothing
