Our Nursing Workforce Strategy

We aim to be the place where the best nurses want to work, and stay.

MHA launched a five-year strategy in April 2019. Following the impact of a global pandemic the strategy was refreshed in 2022 to focus on recovery, and to position MHA to respond positively to the future.

There are now five strategic pillars:

  • MHA Reshaping Care and Later Living
  • MHA Connections
  • MHA Enhancing Later Life
  • MHA People
  • MHA Fit for the Future

The nursing workforce strategy is designed to support MHA to be fit for the future, to value our nurses by realising their potential and to enhance later life. We want to mirror the strategic aim of the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) by aiming for a workforce that is ‘safe, effective and kind’.

The strategy set out our compelling vision of nursing care, through four key commitments:

  • We will provide a framework for recruitment and induction of nurses
  • We will support, develop and provide a career pathway for our nursing workforce
  • We will support the future of nursing in adult social care
  • We will celebrate the value of our nursing workforce.
