A resident at MHA Hampton Lodge was reunited with his beloved bus as part of his seize the day initiative.

Richard Perry lives at the Southampton home and owns a Guy Arab III.

Richard moved into the home in November 2022 and went for a half an hour ride in the bus.

The initiative encourages residents to re-experience activities or events from the past or to do something they would like to do for the first time.

The bus is owned by five people including Richard and has a very interesting story to it.

The bus was set alight by a disgruntled student who wanted to commit suicide, but thankfully was saved.

The bus was acquired by Richard and his colleagues in 2013 who decided to get it professionally restored by the South East Road Works.

Speaking after the journey he said: “I really enjoyed the ride, and it was great to sit in the bus.

“It's the first time I have seen the bus since living at the home and it was a lovely experience.

“I drove the bus several years ago to Cambridge, but that was at the time when it was still getting repaired.

“I have never been able to drive the bus since the repairs have been completed, which is a shame but something that is not in my control.

“I want to thank the home for helping to arrange this for me and I am very happy with seeing the bus again.”
