Care homes are busy environments with a variety of activity happening every day.  We are looking for volunteers who can support homes in a flexible way picking up tasks as directed.  This could include assisting with an activity, setting up rooms, basic administration, delivering laundry and any other tasks as required.

About the role

As a Care Home Support Volunteer you will provide valuable support to the care home team by offering a flexible approach and completing or assisting with tasks as required. There are so many things to help with, either with residents directly or supporting staff and we would like volunteers to be flexible but also to choose what they are comfortable with. Tasks could vary week to week.

Benefits

This role offers a very flexible volunteering experience and is of great value to our care homes as it means that a variety of tasks can be completed as needed.  This in turn benefits our residents as volunteers are on hand to assist with tasks or spend time with residents as required. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?

Generally, we ask for a minimum of one hour per week for at least six months.

Those aged over 18 can join Monday-Sunday
Those aged under 18 can join Monday-Friday

All volunteers must be available during two or three (depending on the role) induction days which take place Monday-Friday, 10:00-15:00. The sessions are roughly one hour long.

What kind of support will I receive?

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from the Care Home team who will direct you, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers. Travel expenses will be paid.

About you

  • Flexible in approach and attitude and willing to take on different tasks as required
  • You will have good communication skills
  • Friendly and flexible approach
  • You will be able to use your own initiative, but also able to ask for help when you need
  • Reliable and punctual
  • You have the ability to be supportive and non-judgemental at all times to all concerned
  • Show a commitment to health and safety within the volunteering environment
  • You will be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
