A thoughtful new initiative at MHA Belvedere Manor in Colne is helping families hold onto the memory of their loved ones in a truly special way.

Jane Garrity, a senior care assistant at the home, has started creating memory bears for the families of residents who have passed away. Made from the clothing of the deceased, the bears serve as a lasting keepsake—offering comfort, connection, and a tangible way to cherish memories.

Jane reaches out to the families personally, giving them the opportunity to select meaningful items of clothing and preferred colours. She then handcrafts each bear, a process that typically takes around two days to complete. Once finished, the bears are carefully packed in boxes, accompanied by a heartfelt quote.
