Stoke people will be asked to help combat loneliness at an event at the Floral Hall in Victoria Park, Tunstall on Thursday 22 March, after a similar event earlier this month was postponed due to snow.

MHA’s Stoke North Live at Home Scheme is holding the event between 1 and 4pm with the aim of recruiting more volunteers to help run its befriending service, which provides visits and telephone calls to older people who can’t easily get out.  Free refreshments will be available.  The Scheme is also looking for volunteers to help run its other activities to help keep older people active, including lunch clubs, bowls and craft sessions.  Anyone who is interested in volunteering but cannot attend the information event can contact Stoke North Live at Home Scheme Manager Liz Daley on 01782 816662 or at liz.daley@mha.org.uk.

Liz said, “We want the people of Stoke-on-Trent to come and help us in our fight to combat loneliness and isolation, with an emphasis on befriending but, of course, we will have information about all our volunteering opportunities.  Befriending works both ways as our volunteers benefit from the companionship as well as the members.”

Stoke North Live at Home Scheme is a beneficiary of the Co-op Local Community Fund.  Co-op members in Stoke can raise money for the Scheme at no cost to themselves by selecting it at https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/16405/.
