First established by the Secretary of the Royal Horticultural Society over 100 years ago, MHA has reclaimed and made accessible this site of Metropolitan Importance for Conservation, and now delivers an engaging programme of nature based activities together with a tranquil hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Award-winning, five-acre woodland garden
Metropolitan Importance for Conservation site
Created by Rev. William Wilks, Vicar of Shirley and former secretary of the Royal Horticultural Society, in 1904, MHA has restored the community garden to its former glory and now delivers an engaging programme of nature-based activities together with a tranquil hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Located at MHA Hall Grange care home in Croydon, The Wilderness brings the benefits of engaging with nature to care home residents as well as local communities in and around South London.
