New project helps older people keep ‘Forever Active’

Our Derby West and East Live at Home members have been advising on a new health and fitness scheme for the city and helped launch the Forever Active programme at Derby Arena.

Members were joined by Derby County legend Roger Davies and the Mayor of Derby, Cllr Linda Winter, at the launch of the scheme, which has been developed by Derby County Community Trust, alongside Derby City Council to boost the wellbeing of over 60s in the city through weekly social walking football and stability classes.

Forever Active participants and Live at Home members had a go at walking football, chair-based exercise and tours of Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, as well as taking part in a question and answer session with Roger.

Sue Meehan, Live at Home area manager, said: “We have been delighted that our members have been taking part in helping shape the Forever Active programme for older people in Derby.

“Through our work with older people we know how important it is for them to not only take part in physical exercise but also activities that are social to help alleviate the loneliness and isolation that older people can face.”

Jack Bell, Physical Activity and Health Advisor at Derby County Community Trust said: “We are really looking forward to the event and extending the offer of our Forever Active Programme.

“Roger and Roy are big supporters of what Forever Active can achieve with the older generations of Derby and it is great to have MHA on board to further develop this across the city.”
