New dementia wing set for official opening

A new dementia wing at MHA Hall Grange care home in Croydon, London will be officially declared open during an open day at the home on Thursday 13 September 2018.

The Mayor of Croydon, Bernadette Khan, will visit the home during its open day to meet with residents, staff, families and volunteers and see for herself the extension to the care home, which is run by national older person’s charity MHA.

The new wing includes 41 en-suite rooms for residents who are living with dementia, along with new dining rooms and lounges for residents to use. Residents who live in the new wing have access to a secure garden for them to enjoy, which looks on to the home’s historic area known as The Wilderness.

The home, which is on Shirley Church Road in Croydon, can now look after and care for 86 older people. The extension has also meant more jobs for local people as extra care and support staff were needed.

The addition of the new wing has also meant the introduction of MHA’s award-winning music therapy service for people living with dementia. A music therapist will work with residents to help alleviate their symptoms, enabling them to have better quality of life.

Home manager Abiodun Williams said: "We were delighted when the day finally came to welcome our first residents to our new dementia wing and to provide care for them.

"The new wing and residents have made a big impact at MHA Hall Grange and the home is now a thriving community in Croydon.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the Mayor and other visitors during our open day and showing them the great facilities we have at Hall Grange."
