MHA announces Graham Smith as new Chair

Graham Smith has been installed as the new Chair for national charity Methodist Homes (MHA).

The charity, which provides accommodation, care and support services to 16,000 older people across the UK, made the announcement as Keith Salsbury completed his six-year term in the role.

Mr Salsbury has been an active and popular Board Member since 2001. MHA thanks him for his successful service as its Chair, and welcomes Mr Smith to the position.

Mr Smith is a Board Member of MHA and for over 30 years has held senior positions at Board level in the health and social care sector, both in the UK and in Europe. He founded Goldsborough Healthcare plc, which was acquired by BUPA in 1997, and was Managing Director of BUPA Care Services until 2001. Since then he has chaired numerous businesses in the health and social care sectors in the UK and Europe.

In addition to his MHA role, Mr Smith is currently Chair of two other charities involved with theatre and mental health and learning disabilities. He also chairs Voyage Care Group, the UK’s leading provider of care services for adults with learning disabilities.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Smith said, “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to take over as Chair of MHA. I have had the privilege of being involved with the organisation for over ten years and during that time I have seen it become established as one of the most respected providers of long term care services for older people in the UK.

“I look forward to working with Chief Executive Adrian Bagg and his team to ensure that MHA can continue to build on its reputation for innovation and quality care provision.”

Mr Bagg, who joined MHA in March this year said, “I very much look forward to working with Graham to build on the solid foundations laid by Keith Salsbury and the MHA team.”
