A day out at Camborne & Redruth Live at Home Scheme

A Lottery grant of over £250,000 is injecting new life into an MHA scheme in Camborne for older people’s wellbeing.

Camborne & Redruth Live at Home Scheme will receive a total of £250,773 over five years from the Big Lottery Fund, enabling it to expand into the Helston and Hayle areas of Cornwall to reach more older people. The Scheme provides practical and social support to older people living independently in Camborne and Redruth.

It is part of MHA, the national charity providing accommodation, support and care services to 16,000 older people nationwide.

Diane Bruford, Manager of Camborne & Redruth Live at Home, said, “This Lottery grant is so exciting. Now we can expand further into Cornwall to reach even more older people with our befriending visitors and groups, and we’re going to look into arranging more events like outings.

“Older people living independently often face issues such as loneliness and isolation. We’re here to tackle that and promote independence, and physical and mental wellbeing.”

Diane added, “We’re also always looking for volunteers! They might be befrienders, drivers, fundraisers…there’s always plenty to do in a scheme like this, especially now we plan to be expanding our services.

“We’re really excited about this grant – we can’t wait to reach more older people in Cornwall with even more services.”
