Volunteers are vital to helping us make sure that older people live later life well. Over 5,000 of them across England, Scotland and Wales support us in helping deliver our services to over 18,000 older people.

Without the care and unrivalled support of our volunteers we simply wouldn’t be able to help as many older people as we do. They are an invaluable part of the MHA family, so this Volunteers Week – and every week – we want to say a heartfelt "thank you" for all that they do.

Volunteers Week is a nationwide annual campaign that recognises and celebrates the immense contribution that volunteers make to charities across the UK.

Time is a precious resource and many of our volunteers live busy lives but their love and support is hugely appreciated in helping to support our life-enhancing work.

The breadth of support they offer is astounding. Volunteers provide company to older people in their own homes via our befriending service, help out and organise activities at our Live at Home schemes, drive those less physically able to appointments or to pick up shopping. They provide fun and companionship at our care homes and in our retirement living, they help maintain our gardens and support residents in joining them. They entertain, reassure, provide friendship and help us raise funds to continue supporting over 18,000 older people.

Our volunteers demonstrate and live the core values of MHA - care, compassion and patience.

They all make it possible for the older people we serve to stay living at home for longer and they provide comfort and care to our residents, members and their loved ones. They are a vital part of MHA and their dedication to improving the lives of older people is evident everyday across our services.

During Volunteers’ Week we’ll be highlighting some of their stories and celebrating all that they do.
