Archers actress Sunny Ormonde brightened up Macclesfield when she performed in support of new dementia cafés held by the town’s MHA Live at Home Scheme.

Sunny, who is originally from Macclesfield, performed An Evening with Sunny Ormonde at the Macclesfield United Reformed Church in Park Green to a packed out audience. She had been invited by Macclesfield Live at Home, a community scheme supporting older people to live independently in their own homes.

Sunny, who plays the outrageous Lilian Bellamy in the Radio 4 soap opera, donated her time so that all proceeds could go towards Macclesfield Live at Home’s new dementia café. Macclesfield Live at Home is part of MHA, the national charity providing accommodation, care and support to 16,000 older people nationwide.

She said, “The population is ageing so to have this sort of charity to support people in their own homes is hugely important. I felt I was giving something back to my home town.

“Live at Home is fantastic – activities such as meals out, and trips along the canal. It stops people from being lonely. I’m conscious that I’d like my parents to be able to stay in their own home for as long as possible, so this kind of support is very important.

“It was also lovely to come back to my home town of Macclesfield. I left 40 years ago and I have been back since but it’s always curious to be walking around the old town.”

Chris Harrop, Manager of Macclesfield and District Live at Home, said, “Sunny was an absolute joy and her help will be invaluable towards promoting the dementia cafés.”

The Forget Me Not cafés meet every fourth Wednesday in Macclesfield and again in Knutsford on the second Wednesday of the month from 1-3pm.

They are supported by local band Beckie and her Musical Moments, so members enjoy music and simple, gentle exercise, which help to promote positive reminiscence and fun.

Chris added, “It’s a lovely way to share memories and meet new friends.”
