At Havant Live at Home Scheme, we want to enable older people to maintain their independence and live more fulfilled lives.

Through befriending, lunch clubs, assisted shopping, activity and friendship sessions, outings, escorts to appointments and much more, MHA's Live at Home schemes across the UK help to tackle loneliness and isolation in people over 60 – helping them to lead fulfilled lives and remain as active members in their local communities.

Activities at Havant Live at Home scheme include:

  • Singing for Fun and Wellbeing in Waterlooville
  • Exercise group in Waterlooville
  • Outings
  • Befriending.

The scheme's activities programme is designed and led by its members and volunteers to ensure that we are providing the practical and social support which those we serve need.

Volunteering

We are always keen to hear from kind, compassionate people who are able to volunteer some of their time to help us deliver and develop our services. If you have time to spare to help enhance the lives of local older people, please visit the Live at Home Volunteering page to find out more.

Volunteer drivers to take some of our frail members to and from activities (and stay and join in if they wish, free of charge). The activities are Singing for Fun and Wellbeing held at Waterlooville community centre on Wednesday mornings weekly from 10am – 11.30am, Steady and Strong Exercise, Waterlooville Baptist Church, London Rd on Wednesday afternoons 2.00 to 4.15pm. Expenses paid.

Social Volunteers  welcome members to either of our, Singing for Fun and Wellbeing Groups in Waterlooville Wednesday 10-11.30am and Drayton Friday 10-11.30am . Singing for people living with dementia, Havant town centre, Friday morning, scheduled to launch at the end of June 2019. These groups are for all abilities or no ability at all. It is more important that people have the opportunity to meet people in a social setting and make new friends whilst taking part in a shared activity. During the first 30 minutes people have a chat over tea and biscuits before singing begins.

Helping at these activities can mean arriving half an hour before the session starts, helping to put out chairs, welcoming members when they arrive, handing out leaflets of our other activities, making label name badges for members, introducing new members to one another, distributing tea and coffee, distributing song sheets, generally making people feel comfortable and helping to create a friendly atmosphere and helping to clear away afterwards. You can make a difference and have fun at the same time.

Befriending volunteers to visit people in their own homes for coffee and a chat, or to accompany them on shopping trips. Choose the time to suit you, whether it’s a few hours per week, fortnight or once a month, you can make a real difference to someone’s life and form lasting friendships.
