Services for older people in Eastleigh

At Eastleigh Live at Home scheme, we want to enable older people to maintain their independence and live more fulfilled lives.

Through befriending, lunch clubs, assisted shopping, activity and friendship sessions, outings, escorts to appointments and much more, MHA's Live at Home schemes across the UK help to tackle loneliness and isolation in people over 60 – helping them to lead fulfilled lives and remain as active members in their local communities.

Activities at Eastleigh Live at Home scheme include:

  • Natter and Platter - friendship group in Eastleigh
  • Singing for wellbeing in Eastleigh and Fairoak
  • Tai-chi in Eastleigh and Fair Oak
  • “Strictly” ball room dance fitness - dance exercise group in Hedge End (Eastleigh coming soon)
  • 4B (board games, bowls, banter and biscuits) - friendship group in Hedge End
  • Friendship visits
  • Sign posting
  • Bring your own crafts group (coming to Eastleigh 2019)
  • LGBT+ group for older people co-run by the Eastleigh and New Forest schemes (coming soon).

The scheme's activities programme is designed and led by its members and volunteers to ensure that we are providing the practical and social support which those we serve need.

“I enjoy helping with the Eastleigh live at home scheme at the groups we always have such a good time I enjoy the groups as much as the members do.”

“I really look forward to Monday mornings (Our Natter and Platter group) it’s the highlight of my week I get to catch up with my friends and put the world to rights”.

Information for businesses and corporates

MHA is able to subsidise many of its charitable services thanks to the generous contributions of businesses who want to make a difference in their local communities. How to get involved

Information for families and friends

If you’re looking at Live at Home to help someone you know, we understand. With a busy work life, family and other responsibilities, sometimes it just isn’t possible to travel regularly and give a loved one the dedicated care and support you wish you could provide. Refer a family member or friend

Information for healthcare professionals

If an older person in hospital has no family, friends or neighbours, we can assist them to return home. We work with GP practices, hospital discharge and re-enablement teams and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to support older people adjust and settle back at home after a period in hospital. Refer a patient

Information for local authorities

Through our preventative, person-centred services, we can reduce the strain on local health services – delaying, minimising or even preventing people’s need for them. More information

Volunteers needed

Can you offer your time to prevent people from feeling lonely and isolated? Maybe you're looking to become more involved with your local community?

If this sounds like you, we need your help!

We are offering you the opportunity to help older people in your community live later life well. We run weekly groups for people aged 55+ and are looking for Volunteers to get involved for a few hours a month, whenever it suits YOU!

Perhaps you’d like to contribute a couple of hours to fundraise? Maybe you’d like to take part in a weekly lunch club serving freshly cooked meals to our members?

We know that your time is precious so we will work with you to make sure you get the most out of your experience with us. From working directly with the groups and running your own sessions, to representing the scheme at local events are many aspects of the organisation you can choose to get involved with!

If you are a good communicator who shares our values of helping eliminate loneliness in older people, get in touch.

We are currently looking to recruit for the following volunteer roles:

Newsletter writer and editor We are looking for a keen volunteer who would be interested in writing and correlating our quarterly newsletter this role would involve working alongside the scheme manager and CPC to put together a fun and informative newsletter for our members.

Volunteer drivers We always need volunteers who are willing to help our members travel to and from our groups using their own cars; this role can be invaluable as it allows members who cannot travel to groups on their own to still interact with others and get out of their house.

Volunteer social support / Friendship visits Would you like to spend time with older people either in their own home or in a social situation getting to know them and spend time together in a structured fashion, we have members who are unable to attend groups but are looking to make friends and spend time with people.
