Help older people in your local community to have fun and stay active by registering to become an activities volunteer.
Do you have a talent or a hobby that you would like to share with older people? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of older people in your community? If so, you might be interested in becoming an activities volunteer for MHA.
As an activities volunteer, you will help us provide a variety of events and activities for older people in our care homes, retirement living, and community groups. You will either assist an activity leader or run your own sessions with support from our colleagues. You can choose from a range of activities, such as arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, gardening, and more.
By volunteering as an activities volunteer, you will not only help older people to have fun and stay active, but also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.
MHA offers a variety of events and activities for older people in its care homes, retirement living, and community groups. These include arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, gardening, and more.
An activities volunteer helps to provide and support the delivery of these events and activities. An activities volunteer may assist an activity leader or run their own sessions with support from MHA colleagues.
By becoming an activities volunteer, you can help older people to have fun and stay active. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.
You can apply online by filling out a short application form. You will also need to complete a DBS check and attend an induction training session before you start your role. Our Volunteering Team will guide you through the application prcoess and be on-hand to answer any questions you may have.
The time commitment varies depending on the needs of the MHA location you are matched with and your availability. Generally, MHA asks for a minimum of one hour per week for at least six months.
You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator who will match you with an older person, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.
