Thank you for making a pledge to have a conversation with an older person about their words of wisdom.

To join in with our 2020 campaign, follow the steps below and ask an older person “knowing what you know now, having lived such a full and rich life, what advice would you give to your younger self?”.

Also, why not ask for some life lessons to guide you through the next decade and beyond.

Get involved: step-by-step guide

  1. Download the printout Words Of Wisdom cards
  2. Connect with an older person and ask them for their words of wisdom
  3. Note it down on the Words Of Wisdom card, including their first name and age

Did you know...

48% of 22-35 year-olds spend time with someone aged 65+ who they are not related to every week? Read more >>

Our Words Of Wisdom campaign sets out to celebrate this finding and encourage even more inspiring conversations between older and younger generations. Let's continue to challenge the idea of growing divisions between older and younger people and recognise the skills, knowledge and experiences of our older generation as a trusted source of wisdom.

Go that extra mile for the older generation

As a national charity, we provide community support services that help address the loneliness some older people face. But tackling isolation is something we must do together, which is why we’re also encouraging older and younger generations to have more conversations in their lives or to look for new opportunities to connect.

Volunteer your time

Whether it's a regular telephone call, helping out with the weekly shop or offering support at a lunch club, we provide lots of opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer in our services, which provide meaningful ways to make a difference to an older person’s life.

And it’s not just older generations that benefit from this contact. The young people who volunteer in their communities and work within our homes and schemes say they get just as much from it.

We offer people of all ages and abilities exciting and challenging opportunities to contribute towards a life free from isolation for the UK’s older generation - one of enjoyment where they can feel supported, able to contribute and connected in communities that care.

All the money raised for MHA helps people to live later life well, whether that's by attending one of life-enhancing community services, by receiving the support of our chaplaincy service or through our groundbreaking music therapy for people living with dementia.
