Social groups for older people in Hart and Rushmoor

At MHA Communities Hart & Rushmoor, we want to enable older people to maintain their independence and live more fulfilled lives.

Through befriending, lunch clubs, assisted shopping, activity and friendship sessions, outings, escorts to appointments and much more, MHA's Live at Home schemes across the UK help to tackle loneliness and isolation in people over 60 – helping them to lead fulfilled lives and remain as active members in their local communities.

Activities at MHA Communities include:

  • Friendship afternoon groups in Hook, Yateley and Crookham
  • Seated Pilates in Fleet
  • The Sunshine Café for people living with Dementia and their carer’s in Church Crookham
  • Planes, Trains & Zimmer Frames – a monthly group that come together to visit places of interest relating to aviation, transport and/or engineering
  • Outings
  • Pub lunches
  • Befriending.

The scheme's activities programme is designed and led by its members and volunteers to ensure that we are providing the practical and social support which those we serve need.

"Such a friendly team that makes everyone feel very welcome. I look forward to going to the club each week and we have some smashing trips out. It’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever done and I’m lucky enough to have made some lovely friends along the way. Thank you for everything!" Current member

Information for businesses and corporates

MHA is able to subsidise many of its charitable services thanks to the generous contributions of businesses who want to make a difference in their local communities. How to get involved

Information for families and friends

If you’re looking at Live at Home to help someone you know, we understand. With a busy work life, family and other responsibilities, sometimes it just isn’t possible to travel regularly and give a loved one the dedicated care and support you wish you could provide. Refer a family member or friend

Information for healthcare professionals

If an older person in hospital has no family, friends or neighbours, we can assist them to return home. We work with GP practices, hospital discharge and re-enablement teams and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to support older people adjust and settle back at home after a period in hospital. Refer a patient

Information for local authorities

Through our preventative, person-centred services, we can reduce the strain on local health services – delaying, minimising or even preventing people’s need for them. More information

Volunteers needed

Can you offer your time to prevent people from feeling lonely and isolated? Maybe you're looking to become more involved with your local community?

If this sounds like you, we need your help!

We are offering you the opportunity to help older people in your community live later life well. We run weekly groups for people aged 55+ and are looking for Volunteers to get involved for a few hours a month, whenever it suits YOU!

Perhaps you’d like to contribute a couple of hours to fundraise? Maybe you’d like to take part in a weekly lunch club serving freshly cooked meals to our members?

We know that your time is precious so we will work with you to make sure you get the most out of your experience with us. From working directly with the groups and running your own sessions to representing the scheme at local events are many aspects of the organisation you can choose to get involved with!

If you are a good communicator who shares our values of helping eliminate loneliness in older people, get in touch.

We are looking to recruit volunteer drivers or driver's mates to provide essential door to door support for older people who want to access our services in order to prevent isolation and increase well-being.

Journey's are usually within the volunteer's local community and include destinations such as North Camp Methodist Church, Farnborough Community Centre, Aldershot Methodist Church and Elizabeth Hall, Hook amongst others.

We require our volunteer drivers to hold a full, clean driving licence and have access to their own car or be Midas trained to drive a community minibus. Midas training can be provided for the right candidate. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed for those using their own vehicle at 45p a mile.

If you are a friendly, caring and reliable individual and are looking to make a positive contribution to your community, you will certainly find this volunteer position rewarding.
