48 places for residential care

About Moorland House

Moorland House is a residential care home situated in the beautiful Hope Valley in the village of Hathersage. The home has 48 places providing residential care. All rooms have en suite facilities.

The location writes the home’s Manager, enjoys panoramic views of the Peak National Park “and offers a quiet, relaxing pace of life.” But in the end, a home is more than simply its location. It’s the hard work of the staff, writes one resident, that makes everyone “feel at home in this family feel residence. Their loving care is very much appreciated.”

The home offers a unique blend of airy and bright rooms with amazing views.  There are spacious dining rooms where residents can eat, relax and socialise with other residents, guests and staff.

Where are we

Moorland House is located in the beautiful village of Hathersage, which is situated in the picturesque Peak District. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and stunning views this care home in Derbyshire is ideally located.

Activities, trips and events

Our beautifully landscaped gardens, patio areas and summer house are perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. Our hair salon offers an opportunity for a spot of pampering, and the bar is a great place to get together with friends.

We have a schedule of events and optional activities, helping residents to explore their interests and discover new ones. There’s a Greenfingers Club and an Arts Club, armchair exercises, baking, flower arranging, bingo, quizzes and church services with our dedicated chaplain. We host inspirational talks and regularly invite in local singers and musicians.

We also have our own minibus for trips to the seaside, rides on a steam train, or for lunch at a local pub or café.

Award-winning music therapy

Moorland House care home is committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained therapist is funded by charitable donations.

The therapist interacts directly with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting. Take a look at our video to find out more about this life-changing therapy.

Chaplaincy and pastoral support

We are proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. The chaplain provides a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs - and organise worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.

Seize the day – unique and memorable opportunities

Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.

Privacy and independence, friendship and support - 24 hours a day

Moorland House offers care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.

Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.

Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

Moorland House has the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.

Your room

We encourage our residents to furnish their own rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their own comfy chair, or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled.

We have a mix of room types, including some with a full en suite wet room and others with an en suite toilet and sink.

We have a call system which can be operated by a hand control or a pendant depending on personal preference. All floors are secured by keypad coding to ensure that residents are safe and secure at all times.

Residential Care

Our residential care is all about providing a special kind of home from home. It’s our way of making sure your loved one continues to live life to its fullest and remains as independent as possible. It means they can
get out and about when they want to, catch up with friends or pop to the shops, but with the added security and peace of mind that comes from knowing 24-hour support is available if they need it.

Our team are on hand to offer just the right amount of care, giving those who need it support with activities such as bathing, dressing and mealtimes.

Without having to worry about cooking meals, washing clothes or getting the hoover out, you’ll see your loved one truly enjoying life and exploring their full potential.

Food and drink

Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

“Meals always looked and smelt delicious, there was always fresh fruit, biscuits and snacks freely available and residents were offered cold and hot drinks throughout the day.” Independent review on

Our commitment to your well-being

Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.

We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.

We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.
