What makes us special?
Where are we
We are in the leafy conservation area of Bowdon located at the southwest edge of Greater Manchester. We are within walking distance of the village green where a handful of shops and businesses cluster around a pretty parish church and local pub.
Our home is in a great location and within walking distance of both Hale village and Altrincham town centre. Hale village has many amenities including local bus stops, restaurants, café bars and the main Manchester to Chester railway line.
Altrincham town centre has an exceptional mix of top high street brands, a wide range of independent retailers and an award-winning market.
Only 2.4 miles away from us is the beautiful National Trust Dunham Massey a green oasis with an ancient deer park a house filled with treasures and stories and home to one of Britons finest winter gardens.
A packed social schedule
Our beautifully landscaped gardens are the perfect place for peaceful relaxation, or to take some gentle exercise. Our green-fingered residents can even get hands-on with a bit of gardening. The hair salon offers a spot of pamper time and our coffee shop is the perfect place to get together with friends.
We have a busy schedule of events and optional activities, helping residents to explore their interests and discover new ones. There’s armchair exercises, arts and crafts, bingo, quizzes, bible studies and church services. We also have a dedicated chaplain.
Our residents look forward to our annual garden party and enjoy entertainment from local singers and musicians who come in, we love any opportunity for a good singalong.
Chaplaincy and pastoral support
We are proud to be supported by a dedicated chaplain Rev Andrew Robinson, Who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs.
Andrew is in the home four days a week, providing companionship and one to one pastoral support for all the residents, their family, friends and staff members irrespective of their beliefs. Andrew also organises worship for all those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.
Seize the day-unique and memorable opportunities
Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.
Visit us for an afternoon
If you would like to experience living at Handsworth, we would love to invite you for lunch and spend an afternoon with us. It’s the very best way to really get a feel for our friendly caring home and decide if we are right for you.
Handsworth provides care, comfort, compassion, and friendship to ensure that all residents are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Our highly trained and dedicated staff are available 24/7 to provide assistance whenever needed, ensuring the provided care and support is tailored to each individuals needs.
We offer care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.
Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.
We have the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.
We encourage our residents to furnish their own rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their own comfy chair, or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled.
All our bedrooms have an en suite toilet and sink.
Finding a place that you can call "home" is a question of getting the right balance.
Our residential care provides 24 hour support to help you maintain independence –giving you peace of mind and a place to make new friends and explore new interests.
In many ways it is like living in a hotel, where you don’t need to worry about laundry, changing the bed or cleaning your room. We will use the district nurse and GPs to provide any medical care. Our caring staff help with everyday activities, as required, like bathing and dressing or support at meal times.
At the same time, there is no reason why you can’t maintain links with the local community, or develop new friendships and relationships. Care staff will help you do that, while also working hard to create a home that is itself full of opportunity and possibility.
In the main living areas of the home you will find lounges where you can join in one of the many activities with others or to sit quietly with a book or newspaper.
We offer a dining experience that enables you to maintain your independence and dine with dignity. Our staff support residents to make mealtime choices in a way that best suits them.
While residents can choose to dine in their own rooms, we encourage residents to eat together in the dining area so they can make the most of this valuable social time, we love it when relatives and friends join their loved ones for meals too.
If one to one support is required, a carer will sit with the resident to help them eat their meal at a comfortable pace.
You can enjoy treats from around the world on a weekly basis incorporating different culinary cultures ensuring that you enjoy a variety of food and drinks.
Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.
We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.
We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.
Our team are happy to help you when you are ready to discuss the care and support that you, or your loved one may need. You can call us directly, arrange a tour of our home or submit an enquiry and we’ll contact you.
