Activities, trips and events

For those who enjoy the outdoors, our landscaped gardens, sensory garden, patio areas and summer house are lovely areas to relax and, for keen gardeners, we have a potting shed.

There’s a hair salon and coffee shop, and our bar ‘Carter’s Rest’ has its very own jukebox and piano. We have even got a themed train carriage, and a dressmaking area. We’ve a schedule of optional events and activities, helping residents to explore their interests and discover new ones. There’s table tennis, armchair exercises, gardening, baking, flower arranging, arts and crafts and church services.

We have a dedicated chaplain and music is an important part of every day. There’s music therapy for our residents living with dementia and we’ve even recorded our own CD. Together with regular visits from local playgroups, there’s never a dull moment.

Award winning music therapy

The Homestead care home is committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained therapist is funded by charitable donations. The therapist interacts directly with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting.  Take a look at our video to find out more about this life changing therapy.

Chaplaincy and pastoral support

We are proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. The chaplain provides a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs - and organise worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.

Seize the day – unique and memorable opportunities

Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.

The activities co-ordinator provides a full weekly programme - led by residents’ suggestions and wishes - while MHA’s highly trained and caring staff members work hard to ensure the right balance of privacy and company for each individual. Gledhow even has its own minibus to assist residents to get out and about.

Each resident can be assured of the person-centred care that lies at the heart of MHA’s values. Gledhow is committed to providing alternative therapies such as reflexology to residents, which help to promote personal well-being, while home's dedicated Chaplain provides one-to-one support to meet individual spiritual needs.

Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.

Gledhow is always looking for imaginative ways to delight its residents. The home receives regular visits from a friendly donkey who even makes personal appearances in residents’ rooms if required – this just one of the many ways in which residents enjoy richness and fulfilment in their daily lives.

Gledhow is located adjacent to Trinity Court retirement apartments.

Gledhow offers care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.

Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.

Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

Gledhow has the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.

Your room

We encourage our residents to furnish their own rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their own comfy chair, or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled.

All our bedrooms have an en suite toilet and sink. If your loved one enjoys catching up with the latest news, sport, chat shows or soaps, there’s TV in their room and we have WiFi throughout the home.

Nursing care

24-hour nursing care, tailored for individual needs. We provide round the clock specialist nursing care for those with medical needs, whether that’s a long-term illness or disability. Medical and other forms of specialist support are delivered with friendly expertise by our highly skilled team of nursing professionals.

As you’d expect from our wonderfully
compassionate team, nursing care is wholly person-centred to meet the requirements of each individual with respect and dignity at all times.

Food and drink

Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

Our commitment to your well-being

Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.

We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.

We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.
