Where are we?
Amathea Care Home is located in the ancient market town of Workington in Cumbria and within easy reach of the Lake District.
Entertainment and events
We have an optional schedule of events and activities which we change weekly, helping residents to explore their interests and discover new ones. There’s baking, arts and crafts, bingo, quizzes and church services with our dedicated chaplain.
There are lovely secure gardens to enjoy, or patio areas to relax in the sunshine. We take regular day trips to the seaside and to the beautiful Lake District towns of Keswick and St. Bees. With frequent visits from local schools, and performances from talented local singers and musicians, there’s certainly never a dull moment.
Award-winning music therapy
Amathea care home is committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained and award-winning therapist is funded by charitable donations. They interact directly with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting. Take a look at our video to find out more about this life-changing therapy.
Chaplaincy and pastoral support
Amathea is proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. Our chaplain provides a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs - and organises worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.
Seize the day - unique and memorable opportunities
Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.
Amathea offers care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.
Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.
Amathea has the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.
We encourage our residents to furnish their own rooms as they wish. This could be as simple as hanging a couple of their favourite pictures on the wall, but they’re also welcome to bring their own comfy chair, or anything that makes them feel at home. The most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable, happy and settled.
All our bedrooms have an en suite wet room, with toilet and sink and include fi tted wardrobes and lockable cabinets.
If your loved one enjoys catching up with the latest news, sport, chat shows or soaps, we can provide a TV in their room on request, and there’s WiFi throughout the home.
Our residential care is all about providing a special kind of home from home. It’s our way of making sure your loved one continues to live life to its fullest and remains as independent as possible. It means they can get out and about when they want to, catch up with friends or pop to the shops, but with the added security and peace of mind that comes from knowing 24-hour support is available if they need it.
Our team are on hand to offer just the right amount of care, giving those who need it support with activities such as bathing, dressing and mealtimes. Without having to worry about cooking meals, washing clothes or getting the hoover out, you’ll see your loved one truly enjoying life and exploring their full potential.
We’re proud to be recognised for our pioneering approach to dementia care, which is carefully built around each individual.
Our dementia facilities here are second to none, and specially designed to provide a reassuringly familiar, engaging and warm environment for those living with us. We have dementia friendly signage and personalised door signage to assist your loved one to find their room. And our dementia areas open into a secure and peaceful garden.
Residents enjoy reminiscence activities, including doll therapy, designed to stimulate social interaction and alleviate the feeling of isolation associated with dementia.
Mealtimes are an important part of the day here, giving our residents the opportunity to get together and enjoy freshly prepared food in a relaxed restaurant-style environment. We always offer two meal options and our chefs will happily prepare something special if nothing on the menu appeals.
"Food homely tasty and plenty of it, if you want something different from the menu you can, no issues." Independent relative review, carehome.co.uk
