MHA is encouraging churches and supporters to have the ‘Best Sunday for Ages’ this June when the day kicks off a week of fundraising for the charity.
Traditionally MHA has held MHA Sunday on the second Sunday of June to enable Methodist churches to hold special services of thanksgiving to support the older person’s charity. This year MHA has taken the decision to broaden out the day to have the ‘Best Sunday for Ages’ to encourage old friends and new to join in.
The theme for this year is ‘Befriending Age’, reflecting the importance MHA puts on combating loneliness and isolation and enabling older people to join in and create caring and supportive communities.
Friends of MHA are encouraged to take their Best Sunday and use it to support the work MHA does with older people, as Director of Chaplaincy and Spirituality Keith Albans explained.
He said: “We want to grow the work we do to support more older people so we came up with the idea of broadening out MHA Sunday and creating the Best Sunday for Ages.
“A Best Sunday for many of our friends is about going to church, so we have continued to provide worship materials so Methodist congregations across the country will still be able to hold their annual service and collection supporting MHA’s work.
“But for some of our friends, their Best Sunday might be about playing football or going for a walk, so we’re encouraging them to ask themselves if they could organise a sponsored football match of walk.”
