Willcox Close, Glastonbury, Somerset

As the result of a legacy from a local GP, Dr Willcox, the Scheme was built in 1972 and run by a local firm of solicitors with a group of trustees. It was understood however, that if ever the Scheme could no longer be looked after by its original management then it was to be given to MHA. That handover took place in December 2004.

Willcox Close consists of seven bungalows, eight flats and four studios, providing a mix of one-bed and two-bed accommodation.

Since 2005 MHA has been refurbishing Willcox Close with new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, security lighting, fire alarms, railings and call system. These details are important but, in the end, what makes a Scheme is company and atmosphere. “Willcox Close is a friendly place,” writes one resident. “There are things to do if you want and there’s always someone around.”
