Bradley Court, a Housing with Care Scheme is “one of a kind”. Established in partnership with Kirklees Black Elders Association and Kirklees Council, the Scheme serves the needs of a diverse multi-ethnic community. Older people of an African Caribbean background make up a minimum of 50 per cent of the tenants. In response, Bradley Court caters for a variety of cultural preferences through its menus and social activities. Bradley Court has even established its own Gospel Choir. This has grown out of weekly visits by a local pastor, the Revd Orlando Brown, who combines a gentle exercise session with a sing-along. He has built up a strong relationship with residents and the Scheme is proud to have formed a choir whose make-up reflects the tenant population.
Bradley Court is a vibrant community, proud of the wide range of activities available to tenants – from computer training and bingo afternoons to a Garden Development scheme. It regards itself as a symbol of how older age is about embracing new experiences.
