Give a Christmas gift of friendship

Could this be the most important Christmas card you’ll send this year?

Every year, as part of our Christmas Friendship Appeal, we ask people to write an extra Christmas card, send it to us, and we’ll deliver it directly into the hand of an older person in one of our care homes, retirement living communities or Live at Home schemes.

All our projects celebrate Christmas, so no resident or scheme member will be without company. But there’s no substitute for a card that came from outside the home or scheme. It forms a valuable link with the wider world and lets people know that someone out there cares, even if they don’t know each other.

"Thank you for the lovely Christmas cards that were sent to the Wincanton Live At Home Scheme, they were shared with our members at various Christmas lunches and very well received. Particularly the cards drawn and designed by children, they bought smiles to many faces and made our Christmas events even happier." - Live at Home Manager

Will you, your Church family or group share the joy of Christmas with MHA residents and Live at Home scheme members by each writing just one extra Christmas card? People are encouraged to send cards of their own choosing, thus keeping them individual and varied.

Your cards will be distributed among our homes and schemes as part of their celebrations, making sure that all the older people we serve receive at least one unexpected Christmas greeting from outside.

Check out our video clip below showing the impact your cards can make to our scheme members:

If you or your group would like to participate, call a member of our fundraising team on 01332 221641 or email for further instructions and a Christmas Friendship information sheet.

Can you help us further?

Some people choose to give a gift at this time of year and we are extremely grateful whether you send a card, a donation or both.

How your gift could help:

  • £6 could help us provide a week’s ‘Telebuddies’ service, providing a regular phone call to check on isolated older people living alone
  • £10 could support a Live at Home member in their local community for a week
  • £10 could fund a session of one to one chaplaincy support
  • £30 could fund an individual music therapy session, giving someone with dementia the opportunity to express their feelings.

We are grateful for any gift - no matter how large or small, your generosity enables us to continue our important work for older people.

To make a donation, please visit our online donation form, contact us on 01332 221641 or to donate by post, please send a cheque payable to MHA to: Christmas Friendship Appeal, MHA, Epworth House, Stuart Street, Derby DE1 2EQ.

Thank you for your support.
