Hartcliffe Nursing Home was built in response to local demand. Opened in 2002 and built on the site of a former Boys’ Club, it is located in a suburb on the south side of Bristol.
MHA’s Home forms part of that effort and just 400 yards away, the Symes Avenue shopping centre is also being rebuilt.
The Home itself lays a good deal of emphasis on the range of activities it is able to arrange for its residents. “Whilst we always respect an individual’s privacy, Hartcliffe has its own Activities Co-ordinator who organises a complete selection of activities for residents to take part in if they wish.” Residents have gathered in the past, for example, to hold a charity quiz night to raise money for the BBC’s Children in Need appeal.
Like all MHA homes, Hartcliffe places a great emphasis on the spiritual well-being of older people, helping them to feel valued and fulfilled in their later life. The Home was one of the first to undertake MHA's “Final Lap” training, which supports staff, residents and relatives in understanding sensitive end of life issues in an open and positive way.
