41 Places for Residential Care and Dementia Care

For over 25 years, Epworth Grange has been a home in every sense for people with residential and dementia care needs.

It is just a short distance from the town centre of Bury, with its multiple In Bloom awards, art and regimental museums, heritage railway and famous open air market (which is only one of its shopping opportunities). But even within itself alone, Epworth Grange has plenty to offer.

All but one of the private single bedrooms have en suite facilities, while the lounge and activity room are attractive, pleasant places to socialise. There are four dining rooms spread throughout the home for mealtimes; residents, of course, guide the rotating weekly menu to ensure that meals are nutritious, delicious and, crucially, what they enjoy. The Food Standards Agency has given the home five stars; residents rate the meals as “very good” and the care regulator has noted the “relaxed and unhurried” pace of mealtimes.

People can have an appointment with the visiting hairdresser in the hair salon, and enjoy the two connected gardens (both are safe for people with dementia) and conservatory.

“It’s busy, but also calm and relaxing,” said Home Manager Susan Hopkinson.

“It’s all about what the residents want – what they like to eat, the activities they enjoy. We don’t just deliver care, we really truly do care.”

Privacy and independence, friendship and support - 24 hours a day

“Very caring staff, every one of them…”, “All the staff are polite and respect my privacy…”, “They show respect and treat people as individuals…”

With testaments like these from residents, no wonder therapeutic experiences are just part of everyday life at Epworth Grange. Regular music therapy gives people with dementia a non-verbal way to express themselves creatively (and has benefits for those without dementia too). The reflexologist’s sessions are calming and relaxing, and the Chaplain provides spiritual support in whatever manner a resident prefers it, whether through a religious faith or otherwise.

In addition, feline residents Tiddles and Daisy are charming company for residents, enabling very rewarding relationships with their enjoyment of laps and strokes.

Furthermore, the Rainbow Club’s activities, such as sensory flower arranging and “smell jars” are particularly beneficial for people with dementia.

“Our care is person-centred,” said Susan.

“There’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all when it comes to care. It is very individualised and we will always tailor it to each person’s specific wants and needs.”
