65 Nursing Care Places

Hartcliffe nursing home was built in response to local demand. Opened in 2002 and built on the site of a former Boys’ Club, it is located in a suburb on the south side of Bristol.

The home itself lays a good deal of emphasis on the range of activities it is able to arrange for its residents. “Whilst we always respect an individual’s privacy, Hartcliffe has its own Activities Co-ordinator who organises a complete selection of activities for residents to take part in if they wish,” the Manager notes.

Like all MHA homes, Hartcliffe places a great emphasis on the spiritual well-being of older people, helping them to feel valued and fulfilled in their later life. The home was one of the first to undertake MHA's “Final Lap” training, which supports staff, residents and relatives in understanding sensitive end of life issues in an open and positive way.

The team at Hartcliffe are all very friendly and very helpful. The food is first class and plentiful to the extent my friend is starting to put weight on which is a good thing. The staff give a good professional approach while keeping the friendly but respectful attitude. There are lots of activities going on both in and out of the home.

Since mum has been at Hartcliffe Nursing Home her health has improved, mum is less anxious and much more settled. She eats better and has quality of life. Staff understand her and provide good care. There are activities if she wishes to do. They work very hard and long hours. I feel mum is safe and well looked after. I see her 4 days a week but can relax on the other days, she is in safe hands.

My Dad moved to the care home in February this year. He has settled in really well thanks to the caring and friendly staff. The food is really good quality and the home is kept clean and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble when you ask for things and the staff have also been very supportive to me and my family when we decided to move my Dad there. It wasn't an easy time for any of us and we've been made to feel very welcome every time we come to visit.

Hartcliffe nursing home has an excellent report on the CQC website, which I had checked before going to look around. As soon as I walked in the door I knew it was the right place for my mother to move to. It was clean, fresh and well maintained. The staff led by the manager and the lady from finance/admin are welcoming, helpful and efficient, nothing is too much trouble. I know my mother is exceptionally well looked after which gives me great peace of mind.

My mother has been in Murford Avenue nursing home for two years and I have nothing but praise for the management and staff. Their attitude, attention to details and care is far and away better than in other similar establishments I have seen and heard about. Communication is very good and requests are generally dealt with swiftly and satisfactory.

During the Christmas period the home was decorated beautifully. There were Christmas songs being played most times during the day. There were activities being delivered most days accessible to most residents. This was stimulating and fun and enabled the residents to join in the festive spirit. There were several Christmas concerts, visits from schools and services. The whole atmosphere was truly wonderful. On a continual basis, staff are very friendly they always say hello, but they also get to know you and form a friendly relationship with you always happy to help.

There have been small hiccups along the way but every time I have had concerns and spoken tot he manager I have found my worries have been taken seriously and acted upon immediately. My mother on the whole is treated with respect and care. In fact some of the carers work over and above expectation. My mother has Alzheimer's Dementia and at times the care of her can be extremely difficult. As family we are more than satisfied with the care our mother receives.

I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a first class nursing home in South Bristol, providing every aspect of care in a dignified and professional way. Staff and management always being available to help in anyway they can. My mother's quality of life has greatly improved due to the care and support she is given throughout the day and night at all times, as a family we could not ask for more. From management down to the domestic staff everyone works hard to make Hartcliffe Nursing Home a home to be proud of. A very big, big thank you Hartcliffe and well done to everyone concerned.

Mum found herself at Hartcliffe by accident. Quite literally! After having a nasty fall whilst living on her own she was sent for rehab through the NHS. It became apparent that Mum would no longer be able to live on her own, and as a family, we were given enormous support by the whole team at Hartcliffe to enable Mum to stay. We cannot praise the staff enough in making Mum feel welcome and she has gone from not wanting to enter a Home to wanting to stay at Hartcliffe. All the staff from Manager to Maintenance know Mum by name and will always have time to stop and talk to any of us. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hartcliffe Nursing Home. Indeed I have already done so!

Mum had to be moved from sheltered accommodation for safety reasons and moved very quickly into the home. The staff and facilities are excellent. I would love to recommend this home to anyone. Mum has been working in the care community for 20 years and always said she would never go into a home, she is now really settled. I would rate this place and staff as 5 star.
