44 Residential and Nursing Care Places
Allesley Hall is a care home near Coventry with a remarkable range of activities. With befriending, games of chess and bingo, an annual Fun Day and council-backed summer events such as public band performances in the garden, there is always plenty going on, and volunteers are always being sought to enhance residents' experiences further.
Allesley Hall opens to the public during the national Heritage Weekend when visitors can view an 18th century brick-built dovecote (once housing over 500 birds) and the garden’s rare trees – including an ancient yew reputed to be over 1,200 years old.
The present building was operated as a convalescent home in the 1940s and in 1990 was renovated and re-opened as a nursing home for 45 people. It was transferred to MHA in 2005. To its residents what is now important, however, is not its history but the care it provides. “I have been really happy with my Dad being here,” says one relative. “He has been treated as an individual and the carers cannot do enough for him.”
Adjacent to Allesley Hall, also within the grounds of Allesley Park, is Dovecotes, comprising 39 leasehold apartments. The two bed apartments are split over two levels, and benefit from the beautiful surrounding gardens and good access to local amenities.
