A purpose-built property with state-of-the-art facilities, Beechville is situated on the Chorley New Road, in the Horwich area of Bolton. Formerly a Quaker Home, Beechville has been rebuilt by MHA in a way that supports individuals with general residential and residential dementia care needs.

The accommodation, which has places for 63 residents, is divided over two floors, each with its own lounge and restaurant.  All of the bedrooms have an en suite shower room, with further assisted showers and bathrooms on each floor.  Communal areas include a music room, a holistic therapy room, a games and activities room, a library and a hairdressing salon.  There are a number of quiet spaces for residents, including an enclosed therapeutic garden area.

“We have been thrilled with the level of local community support whilst the home was being being built,” says the Home Manager. “We are in the process of establishing a Beechville Volunteer Support group who will enhance the service to the residents in our care.”

My dad moved into Beechville two years ago, when vascular dementia meant he was no longer able to cope independently, and he has settled in extremely well. The staff are consistently caring and considerate, they treat my dad affectionately and respond well to him with humour, patience and understanding. I live 250 miles away, and I feel confident that he is in safe hands. The staff call me only when they have concerns about health issues. I can visit any time without needing to inform them. There is a wide range of activities and the atmosphere is always upbeat and positive, providing a good balance of lively enjoyment as well as periods of quiet and calm. Relatives and friends are always welcomed and are given a lot of support. We are also encouraged to participate but there is never any pressure to do more. I would definitely recommend Beechville and am grateful to everyone there. My dad is very happy and enjoys a good quality of life with no worries or stress.

Beechville is a modern well designed home. All rooms are ensuite and a good size. There is a range of lounges - both small and large throughout the building. The home also benefits from a dedicated chaplain and group of volunteers; I think this adds an extra dimension to the home, as they provide an independent and caring oversight, leading many activities. The home has a focus on both physical and mental well being. The Chaplin also provides support to relatives. There is an excellent programme of activities, in fact, the best that I have seen at any home. The activities co-ordinator works hard at including all residents. Above all the most impressive part of this home is the attitude and dedication to staff. As we walk down the corridor every member of staff greets my mother by name, and by staff, I mean 'all staff' including the kitchen staff, cleaners and admin staff. The staff are a very dedicated and impressive team it is clear that they care about the residents.

The staff are caring and treat the residents with respect. There is a training matrix for the staff in situ, covering aspects of Lifting and Handling, Health and Safety, Infection Control and Fire Evacuation, with some participation in NVQ training. I view the staff as my husband's 'extended family' as he responds to them more than to me, which is good. Beechville has an excellent Music Programme with group and one to one involvement. There is also a very active events programme to suit all levels of participation.

Mum moved into Beechville in July 2016. At first, she found it difficult to settle, but with the help of the wonderful staff is now happy and contented in her new home. She has begun to enjoy some of the wide range of organised activities and particularly looks forward to the weekly religious services and discussion groups run by the Methodist Chaplain. My wife and I are able to visit very regularly and always find Mum well dressed and groomed. Knowing how well she is being cared for and how much healthier she seems enables us to feel more relaxed and look forward to visiting. All her other visitors tell us how much better she seems and are equally impressed with the high standard of care they have witnessed.

Mum has been living at Beechville for three years. Over that time her dementia has progressed significantly. She is very happy at Beechville and always happy to return after a day out, which is very important to me. She is always greeted by staff who know her by her name and enjoys lots of kisses and cuddles from everyone. The food always looks really good and there is a very good choice. There is a very enthusiastic activities coordinator who tries to include everyone, whether it is by way of one to ones or group activities. I can't ask for anything more than that mum is happy, has plenty of company and understanding care when needed. Excellent, keep up the good work.

Mum has only been at Beechville for four weeks. The staff have been wonderful with her, they make her feel special as they do with all the residents. She has settled in really well and joins in the activities, which she loves. I find the staff extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. If you have any questions they are answered immediately. Everyone works very hard and there is a lovely atmosphere really enjoy my visits. Thank you to all.

Mum has been in Beechville for two and a half years during which time her dementia has progressed significantly. The care received has also changed over that time with more support being given to Mum. The staff are fantastic! They always have time for an update on Mum whenever I visit. I also know that they will be in touch should anything happen in between visits. All family and friends are made very welcome and encouraged to visit. The home is split into four different suites with each suite having its own lounge and dining room. This makes it more personal and friendly. One lovely part of Beechville is the Coffee Shop which takes place several times a week and is run by volunteers. They make everyone welcome and have time for a chat and a cuppa. I cannot speak highly enough of Beechville and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

My mum has been in the home over 4 years and as she has deteriorated her health and personal needs have been brilliantly adapted, increased, but enabling her to do as much as possible. The staff are incredibly, friendly, and professional as well as capable. Mum still recognises a lot of her carers as there is good continuity and that's important.

Beechville provides a high level of care to resident and employs experienced staff. The standard of food and hygiene seem particularly good. My only slightly negative point would be supervision of communal areas. Groups of residents can be left unattended for periods.

My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease 18 months ago and lived with me for 12 months. I was unable to leave her except if a friend visited and I was able to go shopping. She became a resident at 'Beechville' in January 2016 and has settled very well. The care home is excellent with wonderful and first class staff. There are lounges, dining rooms and a large coffee bar area open 3 times a week. The home is very light and airy with excellent en-suite rooms for every resident. Food is nutritious and made to suit the needs of the residents. A first class home where families are made very welcome and involved with the care.
