The beginning of Woodlands was an old vicarage set in three-quarters of an acre of gardens in Penrith. On level ground, near shops and on a bus route, this was deemed suitable accommodation for staff flats and an office, and for the communal kitchen, dining room and lounge – but not for residents’ flats. MHA therefore constructed an adjoining block of 26 flats built on four levels – 22 of them for single occupancy, and four for couples. Since its opening in 1983 the Scheme has undergone significant refurbishment, including new kitchens in every flat.
In 2009 Woodlands was developed to provide 29 further apartments for sale with 24-hour care. By developing in this way, MHA fulfills its desire to offer even greater choice to local older people.
