Kingswood Park was built in 1966 as a Cambridgeshire County Council Home. One of its founder residents, aged 100 in 2007, is remembered by the Home’s first manager as more of an extra hand than a resident. He was often to be found helping kitchen staff chopping vegetables and washing up.
Kingswood Park, together with Orchard House and Queens Court, is owned by Hereward but managed by MHA – an arrangement brought about in 2001. It was purpose-built on one level and divided into five units, together with a Day Centre.
In total, the Home cares for 26 residents and 18 living with dementia. In line with MHA’s original vision, this partnership enables MHA to reach out to older people without their own funds but who are supported financially by the local authority.27 Additionally, the Day Centre can cater for 22 people at a time.
The Home is well placed in a town that is just a 20 mile drive east of Peterborough.
